Notes:

  • Dan Beeston’s podcast about improvisation can be found at http://www.impromafia.com/podcast.php

  • Last week’s podcast reviewed the Impro Mafia long-form show “The Wake of Simon Chesterfield”
  • Since recording the podcast, Peter has thought long and hard about his favourite romance movie, and has settled firmly on Music and Lyrics, starring Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore.
  • The Little Mermaid was made in 1989, not 1987.

  • Walt Disney Animated Studios began in 1934. Walt Disney died in 1966.
  • The Sword in the Stone was made while Walt Disney was still alive
  • Michael Eisner became CEO of Disney in 1984.
  • Spoilers for The Lion King
  • Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas was released by Dreamworks.
  • The deal was 5 films after Toy Story, and so Pixar counted A Bug’s Life, Toy Story 2, Monster’s Inc, Finding Nemo and The Incredibles, but Disney didn’t count Toy Story 2 among that number.
  • Bolt is the new 3D Animated Disney film, produced by John Lasseter.

Notes: (yes, proper notes this time!)

  • Mild spoilers for the second episode of Jeeves and Wooster. It also contains minor spoilers for House seasons 1 and 2, major spoilers for the end of House season 3, and even more spoilers for all of House season 4. The first half is pretty safe, but as soon as we start talking about House, switch off.
  • Jeeves and Wooster was screened from 1990 to 1993. A Bit of Fry and Laurie was screened from 1989 to 1995.
  • Hugh Laurie’s article on P.G. Wodehouse can be found here.
  • There’s a handy website dedicated to QI transcripts. Stephen Fry’s direct quote from the referenced episode:
Yeah, you see, we have this idea that it’s rather politically correct to call anything that lives sort of around about the Arctic Circle an “Inuit” rather than an “Eskimo”, but she’s a Yupik. Calling her an Inuit would really annoy her, because she would think, “Oh, there goes another Westerner thinking they’re saying the right thing without asking me.”
  • Stephen Fry was celebate from the age of 22 to 38.
  • Jeeves and Wooster is set in a non-specific time, somewhere around the 20s and 30s.
  • When Peter says that modern shows have inferior secondary performances, he obviously doesn’t include Boston Legal.
  • Despite being able to name the producer, creator, and one of the consulting producers, Peter still can’t name any of the actual actors from House, except for Hugh Laurie. Not overly relevant to the podcast, just an interesting fact.
  • Hugh Laurie was in Namibia at the time of his House audition. The story was previously told in Podcast #7.
  • “Taub” sounds a bit like “Sloan”.
  • Spoilers for season 3 of Desperate Housewives woo.

  • From Deadites online:
The torn up hills have eyes poster that is visible in the cellar of the basement was placed there in response to the Wes Craven film of the same name, the reason behind it was that in the hills have eyes there was torn poster of the movie Jaws, so Sam and the crew interpreted that Wes Craven was suggesting that the Hills have eyes was much more frightening than Jaws, so in return Sam was suggesting that the Evil Dead was much more frightening than the Hills have eyes by placing that poster in his film.
