    Notes:
Very few notes this week - the whole system crashed when I was halfway through the podcast, so I was too annoyed to type much. If there’s anything you want clarified, let me know, and I’ll add to the notes.

    • No Country for Old Men won the Oscar for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor.
    • “Dusty McGuffin” was actually called Llewelyn Moss.
  • The In-Joke Podcast #12 - The “Spoiler-Free” Podcast

Discussion of The Dark Knight and Dr. Horrible’s Sing-a-long Blog, completely without spoilers.

    Notes:

    • A sabbatical is a rest from work, a hiatus. Wikipedia tells us that it does indeed come from the same word root as “Sabbath”.
    • Was Heath Ledger on the medication that killed him as a direct result of his role as the Joker? Conclusive sources could not be found!
    • Similarly, the quote attributed to John Cleese couldn’t be found, but that doesn’t mean that he didn’t say it.
    • The documentary about the life of Bob Dylan stars Heath Ledger, Cate Blanchett, Christian Bale, Richard Gere, Marcus Carl Franklin and Ben Whishaw - all as Bob Dylan. That adds up to 6 actors. It does not add up to 10 or 15 actors.
    • Writers listed under “Toy Story” include John Lasseter, Pete Docter, Andrew Stanton, Joe Ranft, Joss Whedon, Joel Cohen, and Alec Sokolow.
    • Jed Whedon is indeed Joss’s brother.
  • The In-Joke Podcast #11 - The Over-the-phone Podcast

Discussion of the cancellation of Big Brother, where the show got its name, and the related Ben Elton book Dead Famous.

    Notes:

    • It was on Bulgarian Big Brother that the two ladies were filmed having sex, not Belgian.
    • Aparently most of the internet is not porn, but it’s impossible to tell exactly how much of it is.
    • Stephen Moffat will take over from Russell T. Davies as lead writer and executive producer of Doctor Who for its fifth series in 2010.
    • The hosts of Big Brother 2008 were Jackie O and Kyle Sandilands.
    • Jackie O was not involved with Hey Hey It’s Saturday.
    • The main character of Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell is Winston Smith.
  • The In-Joke Podcast #10 - The Long Distance Podcast

Discussion of the new Get Smart film, the Xbox game “Halo”, and the new computer game “Audiosurf”.

    Notes:

    • Peter is in Brisbane, while Gavin is in Emerald. Those are two places which are quite far apart. As such, the podcast was done over “Skype”, so please forgive any problems with the audio, or any awkwardness. (we’re normally face-to-face while recording this.)
    • Barbara Felton did play the original Agent 99. She was the lady pictured in the photo.
    • The SuperByrne comic can be found
    • Peter did, for a while, call himself “The Pistol Avenger.”
    • Mujubius can be found on livejournal here. Definitely worth checking out.
    • The official Audiosurf website can be found here.
  • The In-Joke Podcast #9 - The Hugh John Mungo Grant Podcast

Movies, movies and more movies. A large number of Hugh Grant movies, but also Red Sun, The Sting, Sunset Boulevarde, Riding in Cars With Boys and Chrono Trigger.

    Notes:

    • The girl from Mickey Blue Eyes, Jeanne Tripplehorn, was great in Sliding Doors, but hasn’t really done much else.
    • 200 yen is about 2 Australian Dollars at the moment.
    • 2000 000 000 000 000 US dollars are roughly 21 quadrillion yen. (21 000 trillion.)
    • Love Actually has around 9 major plots going on: the Prime Minister (Hugh Grant), Billy Mack (Bill Nighy), Juliet (Keira Knightly), the writer (Colin Firth), Harry and Karen (Alan Rickman and Emma Thompson), the step-father (Liam Neeson), Sarah (Laura Linney), Colin (Kris Marshall, the guy from “My Family”) and the sex stand-in (Martin Freeman).
    • Included on the deleted scenes are a scene where Emma Thompson has to go to see the Headmistress because of her horrible son Bernard, which leads into the Headmistress subplot, the African scenes, and a few deleted scenes which weren’t entirely new plotlines.
    • The main kid out of Nanny McPhee is Thomas Sangster. He is not the one in the deleted headmistress scene; that’s William Wahham, playing Bernard.
    • The Sting is from 1973, and won seven Academy Awards.
    • “Quite early” for Peter is about 9am.
    • If you’re only listening for the Flash Gordan review, Peter summarises it in four words: “It was rather wonderful.”
    • Peter misquotes the song. The correct quote is “Flash! I love you! But we only have fourteen hours to save the Earth!”
    • Dylan Moran plays a shoplifter in Notting Hill. His assistant is played by James Dreyfus, who later took over the title role of My Hero, right before it was cancelled.
